Lightsaber: Part 5

Hello again!

I asked you which colour you thought I would pick for my saber in the last blog. The comments were quite interesting actually. Most of you suggested that I would pick a red or green saber. This is not the case. I actually chose to make my lightsaber blue. I'll tell you why.

My favourite character from Star Wars is Obi Wan Kenobi. Throughout the movies, Kenobi has had a blue saber. Its always appealed to me more than a green saber. I didn't choose a red one because I didn't like the red colour that the LED from the custom saber shop made.

Now that I had chosen the colour for my blade, it was time to add colour to my hilt. I had my design ready, I just needed to add a bit of colour. I thought it was just stupid to put a bright colour on saber hilt so I wanted to stick to darker colours. Here are two colour schemes that I came up with:

Tell me which colour scheme you thought I chose and I'll tell you which one I chose in the next post!

Lightsaber: Part 4

Back again guys,

Now, I think everyone in the last blog commented that they liked design number 2 better. It's amazing! I chose design 2 for my saber as well. I chose it not only for the way it looks but the room inside the hilt to place wires and such. This brings me to the topic of this post. THE INSIDE.

After deciding what my exterior was going to look like, I needed to research how to actually wire the thing up. This actually proved to be the most difficult thing. The first thing I needed to work out was if I wanted sound or not. Of course I did want sound in it.

I went down to the shops and bought myself one of those toy lightsaber's for kids and ripped it apart. I took the sound card and placed it in storage for later. At this point I knew it was going to be a difficult task due to the sound card being so small, but having multiple wires coming from it.

So guys, in the comments section I would like you to predict what colour my lightsaber actually is! Ill give you a hint. It's either green, blue, red or purple. (The typical colours for lightsabers) I think it will be interesting to see what colour people would make their lightsaber!

Sorry I couldn't provide a photo of anything this time.  Photobucket is being a pain.

Until next time, stay safe

I didn't get as much comments as I would have liked on the last blog but I cant really help that. I guess people don't want to read my blog. Don't worry though, I'll keep going and try and get my blog up and going!

Lightsaber: Part 3

Alrighty, lets get into it.

After my first design was a complete disaster I decided that i needed to do more research. I focused my time on what is compatible and what looks good on a saber. I actually came up with many designs, however, only some actually looked really good.

I narrowed it down to my best 2 designs in the end and chose one of them. I wont tell you which one I chose, you can guess in the comments ;) Ill reveal what I chose in the next blog.

So here are the designs! (Let my know in the comments if you can't see them)

Lightsaber: Part 2

I'm back again guys! Time to write more about my beloved lightsaber.

So, for a few weeks I 'lurked' The Custom Saber Shop's forums. I tried to familiarise myself with the whole Saber building process. A neat little thing on the website is the "MHS Builder". MHS stands for Modular Hilt System which is pretty much just the part where you hold your saber. Its a little flash app that opens in your browser and it allows you to select certain Saber Shop parts and put them together and help you decide what you actually want to build.

So I went ahead and built it. I thought it was a flawless design so I posted it on the forums and got a pretty negative response. My saber just wouldn't work. I ended up designing it to be around 17 inches long with is way too big just for the hilt. And the parts just wouldn't fit together. I had a long way to go yet. I was still a noob...

My first design.

In the next edition I'll show you my 2 final designs that I had to choose from and which design I chose and why.

Also, here is a link to the MHS builder so you guys can play around a little: http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/mhsbuilder/mhsbuilder.php

Lightsaber

This is my first post in a very long time. I've decided to do my lightsaber series. I will write a series of blogs following my journey on how I built my masterpiece. Lets start from the beginning ;)

Okay, I've always wanted to build my own lightsaber but never figured out a way to do so. I decided to google a few things. And to my astonishment I found a website that is completely dedicated to lightsaber building. This website is www.thecustomsabershop.com . I was amazed at what this website contained. You can buy parts such as different parts of the hilt, blades and the wiring parts. I needed more info though. I had no idea which parts to buy. So I joined their forums and learnt a bit more. At this point, I am still a noob though...

This is probably the most boring edition of the series you are going to read.. Next time I will post photos of my first saber designs etc... They will get better, I promise.

I do recommend that you do check out that website if you're interested in constructing a saber. Believe me, its worth it. I'll try get the next blog out in a few days!

Star Wars

As you can probably tell by the address of this blog (droidsimlookingfor) I'm a bit of a Star Wars fan! Growing up, my dad who is a Star Wars lover himself used to show me the Star Wars movies. As a young child, I didn't really think much of the movies and the story behind it. Guys with Red sabers were bad and guys with blue or green were good guys.

I have owned many toy lightsabers in my childhood, usually hitting everything I can with them. As I grew up and the prequels were made, I started to actually understand what was going on in the series. My love for Star Wars grew.

Last year, a few mates and I sat down at my house and enjoyed a 14 or so hour Star Wars marathon. Episodes 1-6... It was so epic! I enjoyed it so much, one of the best days of my life

Also, recently I have built my own lightsaber!!! Its made out of metal and has a strong LED light which goes up a blade. Cost me a fair bit (over $200 AUD) but its completely worth it. It even has sound.

I will go into detail about my saber later on. Ill do a series of blogs about my saber and how I made it etc.. I'm sure you guys will enjoy it.

It all ends soon...

Like many people my age, I've grown up reading the books and watching the films. It's become part of my life and it all comes to an end in a month. Like many around the world, I've read every book and watched every movie. I've watched the actors grow up and shared their experiences. But it all ends soon.

I have actually scored a ticket to the midnight launch of the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 which is something I'm extremely excited about. I know what is going to happen since I've read the book at least 3 times but I just want to see how they put the movie together and end the series.

I don't know how I will feel when the movie ends. I will be filled with joy knowing that every movie has been made but I will also be filled with sadness knowing that there are no more movies and this is really the end.

I'd like to say thank you to J.K Rowling for thinking of this marvelous story. Also to Warner Bros. for making the movies. But I'd most like to thank Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and all the other brilliant actors who have brought the story to life.

I truly cannot wait to see the movie!

Greatest player of all time?

Roger Federer currently has 16 Grand Slam titles to his name, holds the record for the longest time as world number one (237 consecutive weeks) and an Olympic Gold medalist. Federer also has over 60 world records relating to his tennis career. This is all extremely impressive, but is Federer the greatest of all time?

Federer is currently 29 years of age and ranked number 3 in the world. Many players his age drop a significant amount in the world rankings. Federer is 4 years older than Rafael Nadal and 5 years older than Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray who are his biggest rivals. Its amazing how he can keep up his quality of tennis against his younger rivals.

Debate has broken out recently about who is actually a better tennis player than Federer. Names like Pete Sampras, Rod Laver, John Mcenroe, Bjorn Borg, Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal were all suggested. All the players above have been some of the greatest tennis players the world has ever seen. But is one of them better than Federer?

In my opinion, Federer is the greatest player in history. Modern tennis is a tougher and more demanding game than it used to be. For Federer to still be playing at the level he is now is simply extraordinary.

What do you guys think? Who is the greatest tennis player in history?

Man Vs Wild Vs Spader

This man right here has got to be one of the most insane people on the planet. Bear Grylls is a man that I love, he knows his shit. I dont think I could be dropped into the wilderness and survive for even a few days. I currently have every episode on my computer and am planning on having a Man Vs Wild marathon. Of course I'll start with season one, two etc...

So tell me (if you follow his TV show) What is your favourite Bear Grylls moment? Mine would have to be when Bear and his crew are walking through a narrow train tunnel and the train ends up coming up behind them. I think it is the only time when you see his camera crew running away from something dangerous. He and his crew only just made it out. Pretty intense stuff

Skyrim!

Alright guys, its officially 153 days till the release of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Just to let you know, I do enjoy playing video games :P
I am extremely looking forward to this game as I loved the previous installent Oblivion. Actually, not much has been said about the game. I know that the dragons in the game aren't scripted and will attack anything which is pretty goddamn awesome. The graphics look pretty sweet as well. Bethesda really have done alot of hard work on the graphics. Every little detail can be seen. But the best part about this game in my opinion is the 300 hour game time. I read somewhere that there is OVER 300 hours of gameplay packed into the one game. Thats Insane! (Not sure if this has been confirmed yet though).I guess after 11.11.11 I will not be seen for weeks if you catch my drift :P
Should definitely be a contender for game of the year.
I will write more blogs when more info is released!
